A number of years ago, we planted a pair of cherry trees in the backyard. The goal was to have our own little orchard of fruit trees. In addition to the apple, apricot, plum, and pear, into the ground went two cherry trees. As we picked the ripe scarlet orbs, I thought about all the plans I had for them. Tasty jams, hot-from-the-oven cherry pies, and dried cherries to throw into granola or muffins. Sweet indulgences, indeed.
