Picking chokecherries was an annual August tradition for my family. It was hot and dry, and the bushes grew along fence lines of gravel roads and creeks and anywhere the birds would spread them. We would take ice cream buckets and fill our buckets with the ripe berries. We would then bring them back to the cabin and start the two-step process.
First we would boil them and then press them to get the juice out of the berries. After we extracted this sour nectar, we would take the juice and create luscious syrup and jelly so we could enjoy chokecherries on our toast, pancakes, panna cotta, and ice cream all year long.
The chokecherry greeting cards feature a watercolor wild chokecherry design with or without prose about chokecherries printed on high-quality linen cards.
